Purchasing and Returning
A Mountain Bike in Hungary
On 11.JAN.2005 I purchased a 26 inch mountain bike from Praktiker in
their Szekesfehervar store on 41 Budai ut. TEL:(22)510-840 for the amount of 45900(HUF) equivalent to about
$242(USD)...
I attempted to return the Mountain Bike to the same store for a no questions asked full refund on 15.JAN.2005
where my refund request was denied for the reason that I waited 24 hours to long and that I had only 72 hours to return the
bike to Praktiker for a refund, of course no-one mentioned this when I purchased
the Mountain Bike on 11.JAN.2005.
I wanted to return the Mountain Bike because after a closer inspection of
the workmanship and quality of metals used in manufacturing it I believed it to be made from
cheap, soft and heavy metal alloys. This Mountain Bike was a yellow 26 inch "Down Hill DX" made
by a previously unheard of company called "Mountain Bike Manufactura"... I returned the bike
in the same excellent shape that I received it from the store clearly stating that I was very
displeased with the cheap, soft and heavy metal alloys used in the manufacturing of the Mountain Bike.
Praktiker would not give me a refund when I was in their store with the Mountain Bike
firmly stating that I am 24 hours to late to return the unwanted bike. I did not want the poorly manufactured Mountain Bike
at all so I left it there in the store with the store managers and walked away without a refund...
I was very dissapointed...
I am dissappointed in both Praktiker policy of not caring
enough about customers to work with them and I was dissapointed in the cheap, soft and heavy metal alloys that gone
into the manufacturing of this Mountain Bike that tries very hard to look like a high quality well made Mountain Bike...
After returning to my dad's house in Velence riding as a passenger in his car, I phoned the store and asked to speak with the
chief store manager who has patiently heard my case and agreed to mail me an in store shopping certificate instead of the refund that I
wanted. I can use this store credit to purchase other goods that are available at Praktiker.
As a result I will never forget my first major shopping experience in my new country of residence after living in the United
States for the last 23 years...
I have received the promised cerificate of in store credit on 20.JAN.2005.
